School Facilities

Summary of Most Recent Site Inspection

The District’s insurance consortium management (JPA) conducts school site inventories on a rotating basis.   Ferndale High School was inspected December 2007.  Specific areas to be address have been forwarded in the JPA’s follow-up report.  Our District maintenance director is systematically correcting identified items on the inspection list.  These types of inspections occur approximately every three years.  Annually, our maintenance director conducts a thorough inspection of our grounds and facilities identifying areas needing to be addressed for repair, replacement, and/or routine maintenance.  Maintenance staff conduct a routine daily walkthrough of our campus to take inventory.

Repairs Needed

Modernization funding is being sought.  Ferndale High School was constructed in the mid 1950’s.  ADA access to entrances, restrooms, and walkways are high priority facility improvements.

Corrective Actions Taken or Planned

The District is seeking state funds to address modernization needs.  Deferred maintenance funds will be sought to address roofing while matching funds (modernization dollars) will be sought to address the ADA access needs as well as the general classroom modernization needs.  In addition, the District is developing a plan to better secure our facilities.

School Safety Plan

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan.

The Ferndale Unified School District Comprehensive School Safety Plan was created in October 1998, and has been reviewed and updated annually since that date.  The Plan includes District policies covering school rules, discipline procedures, child abuse reporting procedures, and plans for disaster preparedness integrated with the Community Disaster Plan.  The School Site Council is charged with the responsibility of reviewing and updating the School Safety Plan.  A consortium of Eel River Valley school districts are currently coordinating a comprehensive regional plan that will significantly enhance our ability to respond to school safety issues with greater coordination of services and resources.
