Student Council Beach Clean Up

Beach Clean Up

Every year in the fall, and again in the spring, our student council cleans up Centerville Beach, located approximately 5 miles from our school.  Student Council members are equipped with garbage bags, divided into groups, and collect trash and recyclables.  At the end of the day they weigh the trash to see which group collected the most.  Before returning to school, they enjoy a hot dog and marshmallow roast. This project began in January 1990. In September, students collected approximately 100 lbs. of trash and 35 lbs. recyclables.

Holiday Cheer

Every December the student council visits elderly members of our community.  Student Council members bring cards and cookies and sing Christmas carols.  They drive in a group from house to house, visiting approximately twenty different Senior Citizens in our community.  Started in 1992, this event has become a tradition in Ferndale and is very rewarding for students as well as the people they visit.

Recycling

This school-wide project began in the fall of 1991.  Our student council recycles paper, cardboard, catalogs, newspapers, plastic, aluminum and beverage bottles.  There are recycling containers for papers in each classroom as well as other receptacles throughout our campus. This process saves our school money and is also good for the environment!
