Special Activities
Our year is filled with a variety of special events and activities. Pictured at left, are three of our primary grade teachers dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters on Read Across America Day. Assemblies are held for Veterans' Day, Memorial Day, music performances, author’s visits, and Cinco de
Mayo. We have monthly visits with our local preschool, field trips to the Pumpkin Patch, a Halloween parade, fall carnival, spelling bee, science fair, and a school wide clean-up day and barbecue. Students give back to the community by
delivering Holiday Cheer to the elderly, taking May baskets to businesses, decorating Christmas trees on Main Street,
cleaning up our beach, and visiting local care homes.

Technology
We have a well maintained computer lab along with computers in every classroom. During lab class younger students learn
keyboarding while older students
use Power Point, Word, Publisher, photo editing, web design,
and other skills including research on the internet.
Junior high students use their computer skills to
design, create, and print their own yearbook. Many
teachers use our web link manager, http://internet.humboldt.k12.ca.us/fernlinks/
to guide students to curriculum
related websites. Accelerated Reader is used by 1st-8th grades and can
be accessed from any computer on our network. Our web site was designed and is maintained by junior high
GATE students under the direction of Mrs. McCulloch, technology coordinator.
