Special Activities
Our school year is filled with a variety of special events and activities. Pictured at left, is The Volunteer Ferndale Fire Department teaching about fire safety. Assemblies are held for various activities, music performances, author’s visits, and May Pole Dance. We have visits with our local preschool, field trips to the Pumpkin Patch, a Halloween parade, fall carnival, spelling bee, science fair, and a school wide clean-up day and barbecue. Students give back to the community by
delivering Holiday Cheer to the elderly, taking May baskets to businesses, decorating Christmas trees on Main Street,
cleaning up Centerville Beach, and helping with Ferndale's Senior Citizen luncheon.

Technology
We have a well maintained computer lab along with computers in every classroom. During lab class younger students learn
keyboarding while older students
use Power Point, Word, Publisher, photoshop, web design,
and other skills including research on the internet.
Junior high students use their computer skills to
design, create, and print their own yearbook. Many
teachers use our web link manager, http://internet.humboldt.k12.ca.us/fernlinks/
to guide students to curriculum
related websites. Accelerated Reader is used by 1st-8th grades and can
be accessed from any computer on our network. Our web site was designed and is maintained by junior high
GATE students under the direction of Mrs. McCulloch, technology coordinator.

Learn to Earn
Every Wednesday before school, representatives from Umpqua Bank bring Learn to Earn to our school. This program provides children
with a convenient opportunity to deposit money into their savings accounts. Learn to Earn encourages children in kindergarten through eighth grade to save, manage, and learn about
money. Learn to Earn is the largest participating member of the California Save-at-School program.
